It’s coming to that time when you start stocking up some of that Christmas shop, to avoid too much last minute panic. No doubt some of you are probably already organised and may think I’m a bit last minute!
So it seemed appropriate to look at some gluten free basics to make sure you don’t miss out on the taste front.
First of all…gravy…so essential! The most flavoursome one I’ve found was Knorr Gluten Free Gravy Granules. Unfortunately, I’ve not found it in the supermarkets recently so I’ve had to try various alternatives (I was just looking for a picture of it and I see that Ocado have it). At the moment I’m using Bisto Gluten Free Gravy Granules which have passed the ‘family’ test…I’ve been using this gravy for the whole family and no-one has commented on the gravy tasting different. For a rich onion gravy, M&S also do a ready to eat onion gravy which just happens to be gluten free.
Paxo have a sage and onion gluten free stuffing which I’ve seen in Sainsburys whilst Asda have their own free from branded packs.
Yorkshire puddings are available in the free from ranges in Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda. They all taste pretty good.
For ready made roast potatoes, check the ingredients of the regular supermarket own brands. Or…for proper tasty roasties, see if you can get Aunt Bessies gluten free varieties.
Gluten free Pigs in Blankets can also be found: so far I’ve spotted them in Sainsburys, Asda and M&S. You’ll find these in the regular meat aisles.
The larger supermarkets have also got gluten free mince pies and Christmas puddings.
And finally…the M&S chocolate pine cones pictured above are part of their regular Christmas range but they’re also gluten free!
A great read
